Ebbtides Swim Meet ReportPosted: December 13, 2012
It was a rainy day outside and lots of water moving on the inside of the Nanaimo Aquatic Centre. We are pleased to announce that two Provincial records were broken. Shannon Mah from Burnaby Hyack broke the 50 free (18 – 24) Provincial record with a time of 28.89. The other one was by the Vic Masters relay team consisting of Terry Nathan, Andrew Sweet, Jennifer Reid and Kari Wilcox in the 200 Mixed Free relay, 100 – 119 age group with a time of 1:47.70. Congratulations to all of you!
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of our volunteers, many from both our winter and summer age group clubs, Nanaimo Riptides and Nanaimo White Rapids. As well our members, family and friends filled in the gaps. As swimmers, we all know that a meet cannot run without your help. Thank You!
This year we had 123 competitors and half of them took part in the water slide races! The winners are Kristin MacColl from Nanaimo Ebbtides and Daryl Morris from Vic Masters. Congratulations to both of you!
Another highlight of this year’s event was the “Chili Off”. We have received lots of feedback saying that the chili was a great hit with many of the swimmers. Unfortunately a few had to head back home to attend Christmas parties but we really appreciate the fact that you made the effort to attend our meet.
The door prizes were well received. While on deck, many swimmers and volunteers would hear their name being called and they quickly ran up to our announcer to receive their unexpected gift. Thank you to all of the donators!
Thank you also to MSABC who helped to finance a clinic on HyTek the night before the meet and allowed for inservice during the meet. Leanne Poulin and Rob Traynor were an invaluable help to us and provided a stress free “back room”.
Gilles Beaudin, our MSABC president, made a presentation of the Year End Trophy winners. The Large club trophy went to Vic Masters and Mid size club went to Winskill Otters. The trophies are beautiful and are the envy of the other clubs. Congratulations!
Finally, thank you to the many competitors who took part this year. Many of you are first timers as well as many who are experienced competitive swimmers. You all joined us in the fun, fitness and friendship of Masters Swimming!
See you next year!
