Eulah Varty of Chemainus is a multi-star athlete, who excels in both indoor and open water swimming.  In the last 20 years, Varty has become one of the most dominant swimmers in Canada. Consistently at the top of her sport, ranking first in Canada in her age category in 10 different years and second in two others, her provincial, national and world accomplishments are simply incredible. 

Varty’s gold medal performances and record-setting feats at the B.C. Masters, B.C. Seniors Games and club competitions have become legendary.  She has competed and garnered medals in the 100-metre fly; 50, 200, 400 and 800 Free; 100, 200 and 400 IM; 100 and 200 Breast; 100 Back and various relays.  Varty travels and continues to compete all over the world, including New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, Sweden, Italy, Costa Rica and the United States. 

One of Varty’s greatest successes came at the 2010 World Masters Championships in Italy where she won gold in the 100 Fly, silver in the 400 IM, and placed fourth in the 200 IM and three-kilometere open water swim in the 75- to 79-year-old category.  Varty continues to be a community leader, participating in many fundraising efforts including the Terry Fox Run, Gold River to Tahsis Great Walk and the Great Lake Walk.
