Victoria Masters Meet Report

Well! Another one bites the dust? I’m not sure what that phrase comes to mind right now! The day started off with our MSABC President who was going to be officiating for us – being fogged in at the Vancouver Harbour! Thankfully the day didn’t continue down that path!

It had been 2 years since we had a long course meet (as last years we ran Provincials short course) and this swimmers proved that and kept our records processor very busy! There were 22 BC Records and 11 Canadian Records broken by the 144 Swimmers! You can view the meet results here.

Again we had swimmers from many clubs participate. The largest being our home club Victoria with and impressive 44 swimmers this year! This followed by Nanaimo Ebbtides and then the Victoria Crystal Silver Streaks and Winskill Otters! We had clubs come from as far as Calgary and then we can’t forget our friends from the USA! There was a from Puget Sound (Washington State) came again!

I cannot thanks the professionalism and efforts that Island Swimming puts in every year for our swim meet, not only the day of – but also the many phone calls Joanne receives from me prior to the day in a small panic – Thanks So Much!!!

Having said thanks to them, I cannot forget the volunteers and members from our club who donated food either. Without them we have no meet. I truly was amazed at the amount of food we had this year (as were the hospitality volunteers!!) but you swimmers didn’t let me down! I was impressed at the volume of consumption! You rose to the challenge and made sure we didn’t have to haul much out afterwards!!

I also want to put out an amazing thank you to the Victoria Masters Coaching Team. We (as in all the swimmers) thank you so much for everything you do for us! 44 swimmers at a swim meet is no easy task, yet you all seem to keep us in check! I know for a fact that Danielle you reminded me to “get on the blocks” a couple of times – keeping me focused.

I hope that everyone had a fantastic time. You should have all received your certificates with times by now, I hope that whether you set a BC or Canadian record, you set a personal best time, acheived a mid-season goal or even participated in a swim meet for the first time – you will be back next year. It was a great success and all of us from Vic Masters look forward to seeing you again next year!

It’s been over 45 years since I had the opportunity to swim in a long course meet – I joined masters swimming in 2010 and missed out on your 2011 long course meet. I was still recovering from the flu, and as a result, did not turn in respectable times, but what the heck, just having the opportunity to swim in a long course meet after so many years brought back many fond memories! Thank you Victoria Masters Swim Club for hosting the long course meet. Looking forward to next year’s meet – hopefully I will be in the best of health and in good shape! 🙂
